Engine Due on 2-4 Brush Fire

Engine 2-11-3 was alerted to 222 South to assist co. 2-4 with a reported brush fire. Engine 2-11-3 was told to go on the Landis Valley Rd side. Crews arrived to find a 50X50 area on fire. Crews extinguished the fire then went available


 
   
   
2 Fires in the First Due

The day time crews were kept busy today with two fires in the first due today. The first was a fire on the stove with extension into the cabinets. The second fire came in shortly after the crews had cleaned up from the first fire. Engine 2-11-3 was dispatched to north Lime St for a reported garage fire. Crews arrived on scene with a well off garage. Fire was placed under control approx 2 hours later.

Engine Due on 2-4 RV Fire

Engine 2-11-3 was dispatched to 222 North in the area of Hunsecker Rd to assist Company 2-4 (Eden) with a possible RV fire. E2-11-3 arrived on location and assisted E2-4-1 who had put a knock on the fire. Crews assisted with overhaul then returned to service.


 
   
   
Fire Prevention In the First Due

Today members went olly's Shoe's on Manheim Pike for a fire prevention detail. Crews set up the MTFR safety house and taught the kids about fire safety and also showed them some of our rescue equipment.


 
   
   
Rope Rescue Training.

The Rescue Co headed up to LCPSTC to continue training in Rope and High Angle Rescue. Crews practiced repelling, rope ascending, and pick off's.


 
   
   
Confined Space Training

Today volunteers traveled out to LCPSTC for confined space training. Crews practiced packaging patients and removing them from hazardous environments.

2 Fires in 24 Hours
Friday, July 2, 2010

Shortly after 0100 hrs Rescue 2-11 was alerted to 2350 Lititz Pike to assist company 2-7 with a reported house fire. Rescue 2-11 was first arriving along with engine 2-7-1. Both units had smoke showing. Crews from both units advanced a hand line to the 3rd floor. Crews found fire in the attic. Units from MTFR operated on location for 2 1/2 hours. Fire was placed under control and the crew from rescue 2-11 returned to station.

As units were cleaning up from the attic fire Engine 2-11-3 was dispatched to 2317 Marietta Ave in 6-7's first due for a reported house fire. Engine 2-11-3 arrived on location and crews were assigned to hazmat decon as there was hazardous materials in the residence. Crews were then sent to man power staging and then cleared the scene.

Crews also responded to an MVA, alarm bells call and a brush fire all with in the 24 hours.

Structural Burn Class

Today the volunteers of SMTFC traveled up to the Berks County Fire training Academy for a Structural Burn Session. Crews practiced advancing hand lines, ventilation, search and rescue, and many other fire ground activities.


 
   
   
Basement Fire in the First Due

Shortly before 0900 hours the volunteers of station 2-11 were alerted to 218 Lincoln St. for a reported dwelling fire. Engine 2-11-3 and Rescue 2-11 went responding with 8. Engine 2-11-3 arrived on location to find a 2 1/2 story dwelling with nothing showing. Rescue 2-11 arrived right after and laid a supply line to Engine 2-11-3. Crews from Engine 2-11-3 were advised by the residence that there was smoke in the dwelling. Crews made entry and confirmed heavy smoke on the first floor. Rescue 2-11's crew did a quick 360 of the building, threw ladders, and began to ventilate. The crew from engine 2-11-3 advised they had located a fire in the basement and had put a good knock on it. Crews from Truck 6-7 and MTFR did overhaul. The fire was contained to a pile of clothes. Units from MTFR operated on scene for aprox. an hour and a half then went back in service.
